Believe it or not the time of the year that you decide to sell your home can have a MASSIVE impact on how quick the home sells and how much interest is in the property which is directly related to the final selling price of the home. When you live in a Northern Climate like Syracuse, NY and the surrounding areas in Onondaga, Oswego, Oneida, etc counties you do not want to be moving a whole household full of furniture and personal items during prime slush season!
Research and statistics provided to us from the NYS MLS service and the GSAR (Greater Syracuse Association of Realtors) tells us that the absolute best time to sell your home in our area is during the Spring time. We can only assume that the majority of people share our dislike for having to move during the winter months and there is a revolving effect wherein the most buyers are looking during the Spring so the most sellers typically wait until the spring to sell their homes as well!
This doesn’t mean you need to wait until Spring to sell or buy however, there are certain markets that don’t seem to be impacted too much by the seasonal trends and there is certainly nothing wrong with listing your property during the winter; especially with the understanding that it may not pop off the shelf in a few days but might be on the market for a few weeks instead.
We work to help our Sellers sell for the best price in their market with the best time frame that we can reasonably attain. Make sure to check out our blog post about the Syracuse area real estate market in reference to appreciation and depreciation of properties.
